This is central to all of Carter's ideas; he likes to mention how he has evolved into a better man in every period of his life due to his constant relationship with God. Living Faith is filled with stories of people whose lives have touched his--some from the world stage, more from modest walks of life. It is not some far off ethereal world levitated about universe.

The teaching in their Bible study groups and the assurance in their daily prayer meetings brought a sense of sober reality. I found his writing inspiring and very interesting. The book, while it did not have a compelling plot, action or drama, is a worthwhile read because of the positive effects the ideas could have on the world. However, contributions to help us share this message of hope with others are welcomed.

The Carter Center, too, is so much more than a presidential library and his work with Habitat for Humanity is one of his many passions. The book reflects his personal commitments which are challenging, innovative, and in his words --"fills me with joy and peace". For many people, faith is a religious word, confined to matters of spirituality. Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly Our 39th president not only keeps the faith but tells us how.

Apr 05, J 5jarvis rated it really liked it Religion is all too often viewed in a negative light these days; Jimmy Carter's book Living Faith does a good job of show the positive effects religion can have.

In the end, Carter's faith weighs in heavily on the side of social justice though, in true Baptist form, he also relates some experiences from his missionary evangelism trips.

Communicating Jesus in today's world is about the community of faithful Christians constituting the Kingdom of God now. Rather, it is present because the faithful and Jesus are simply the presence of the Kingdom of God on earth.

This book has many valuable lessons for social scientists and leaders of religious and community institutions—and it challenges the assumptions of public policy makers hoping to reach and assist the poor.

His character and ethics are what once made this nation great, and are probably the best hope of saving it today. Rather, a discerning of vocation. My heart goes out to Jimmy Carter for who he is and how he lives. Most memorable to me is the story he told of the Rev.

Library Journal This first-person account provides an intimate look at the beliefs and practices of the man who helped to forge peace in the Middle East, yet who hammers nails to build homes for Habitat for Humanity since leaving the Oval Office.

As is common among writers, the author shows himself to have a set of consistent concerns he returns to over and over again—the need for forgiveness in believers, the combination of the reality of unearned grace and unmerited pardon for believers who repent but the need for Christians to live in holiness and obedience to God, the need to overcome worry and anxiety, a devotion to love and encouragement in dealing with family, a concern for the missionary and evangelistic work belonging to all believers, and a stark preference for practical Christianity than theoretical and intellectual faith.
